Green Canary Day
Green Canary Day 2008
Green Canary Day 2008 took place over 2 days for the first time on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October 2008. The event consisted of activities, stalls and giveaways from eco-friendly companies with additional activities for children including face painting and a chance to meet animals from Mudchute Farm taking place on the Saturday.
The centrepiece of the event was Canary Wharf Group’s own stand showing the Group’s progression on environmental issues from its conception to the present day in Construction, Waste Management and Biodiversity. Visitors to the stand were able to enter an interactive competition testing their knowledge of ‘Green Canary Wharf’ to win prizes including theatre tickets, tea for two at the Ritz and more.
A Photography competition inviting people to illustrate Docklands’ unique urban and natural environment and the growing focus on environmental sustainability and biodiversity was run in conjunction with The Wharf newspaper.
The winner was Isle of Dogs Resident Tim Lees for his entry ‘Marriot Mirror,’ taken looking out over the North Dock at Canary Wharf.
Local children were able to take part in an art competition to design posters on the theme of ‘Green Docklands’ run in conjunction with The Docklands newspaper. Entries were judged by representatives of Canary Wharf Group, The Docklands and local MP Jim Fitzpatrick.
