Energy Management
Canary Wharf Group are working to reduce energy used and the impact this has on the environment. We constantly monitor our energy use and ways in which we can lessen this by a variety of means.
The Group’s energy is supplied by EDF Energy. We have signed up to their Green Tariff. This is a means of supporting the production of ‘green’ electricity. EDF measure the power that we use and purchase the same amount of electricity generated by renewable sources such as wind farms and hydroelectricity instead of conventional methods, such as coal.
Carbon Footprint
As a result of purchasing Green Energy, our carbon footprint is very low standing at 3,112 tonnes CO2 or approximately 3.3 kg CO2/m2. This equates to 6% of the total energy consumption of CWG managed buildings.
Carbon footprint as % of total energy consumption of CWG managed buildings
Our occupied buildings are substantially green and CO2 production is only
618,833 kg. By buying green energy, the Group has prevented 47,244,640 kg
CO2 (50.1 kg CO2/m2) from being emitted into the atmosphere.
Landlord Consumption Breakdown
Through constantly examining our facilities systems, we can identify areas in which our consumption and emissions can be reduced. We have introduced heat recovery systems, altered the times plant is required to run, and reduced the hours artificial lighting is on both internally and externally.
Figures show total energy consumed in CWG managed buildings and on the Estate in 2006. There has been a 2% reduction in total energy consumption but these results are from a different building mix.
